Why use DB Primary?

DB Primary is a cloud-based platform, which gives your school a safe and secure environment to teach online safety in primary schools.

Because DB Primary is all web-based, this means you can access DB Primary anywhere with just a web browser and internet connection - there is nothing else you need to install on your computer! Each member of your school requires a username and password to enter the cloud-based platform.

Digital Literacy & E-Safety

Using age appropriate blogs, forums, email, and shared spaces within a secure platform, DB Primary encourages safe online communication between pupils. Moderation settings, profanity filtering, user activity logs, and the golden whistle reporting tool all help to ensure children can use DB Primary safely.

DB Primary also offers a digital citizenship scheme of work called Web Wizards. This is a scheme of work to support schools to deliver the knowledge, skills and understanding for primary-aged children to learn how to stay safe online and contribute positively as effective digital citizens. It is designed to offer children first-hand experience of online communication and collaboration and covers the breadth and depth of the Education for a Connected World Framework. This is a key document published by UKCIS and sets out a set of age-appropriate ‘can-do’ statements. The lessons are designed to be adapted and used flexibly alongside other activities and resources, both online and offline.

In addition to the Web Wizards scheme of work, DB Primary’s Learning Library contains a wide range of activities, teacher guidance, and resources to help pupils understand e-safety and become digitally literate.

Curriculum Resources

DB Learning Library contains thousands of primary resources which are mapped to the National Curriculum and cover Maths, English, Computing, and Topics. Many activities are differentiated and can be assigned to the pupils to complete. Activities are marked automatically, and scores are added to the class markbook, allowing teachers to easily see how well their pupils are doing. The Learning Library also offers a wide range of flexible interactive whiteboard tools to engage whole class learning.

Activities can be set as individual tasks, or they can be put into a sequence known as a pathway. Pathways are created by adding a sequence of activities for the children to complete in a particular order (or you can download one of the pre-made pathways). The pathway is then assigned to the children to complete. Creating and assigning pathways is a great way to keep children engaged with their learning over the holidays as they are able to log in whenever and wherever they want (providing they have internet access) and complete their learning.

Another great resource the Learning Library offers is the ability to build your own activities such as spelling tests, quizzes, crosswords and sorting activities. This means teachers can create an activity for their weekly spellings, have the children complete the activity, and it will be marked for them!
